Water going nowhere? We'll give it somewhere to go

Angel Landscapes & Groundworks is based at 77 Pevensey Road, Bognor Regis. The coastal plain here is largely heavy clay with a high water table, so gardens flood, patios pool and soakaways get overwhelmed. We survey the levels, work out where the water is coming from and install drainage that actually solves it.

Garden Drainage

Land drains, channel drains and French drains installed across Bognor Regis and West Sussex.

We dig, lay and backfill perforated land drains in clean stone and geotextile so water is collected and carried away instead of sitting on your lawn. Every run is set to a proper fall and tied into a soakaway or an existing surface-water system.

  • French drains and land drain networks
  • Channel/ACO drains to patios and driveways
  • Gravel and geotextile-wrapped runs that don't silt up
  • Reinstatement of turf, paving or shingle afterwards

Waterlogged Gardens

Standing water, boggy lawns and clay soil that never dries out — fixed properly.

Much of the Bognor Regis and Chichester coastal plain sits on heavy clay with a high water table, so rainwater has nowhere to go. We survey the levels, find where water collects and design a drainage layout that moves it off the garden, rather than just moving the puddle.

  • Level and fall surveys to find the low points
  • Clay-soil solutions with sub-base and drainage layers
  • Regrading and reshaping of lawns and borders

Soakaway Installation

Crate and rubble soakaways, excavated, lined and connected to spec.

A soakaway lets surface water disperse into the ground rather than flooding your garden or overloading the mains. We excavate to the right depth, wrap the pit in geotextile membrane, install modular crates or clean hardcore and connect the inlet pipework with correct falls and an inspection point.

  • Modular crate soakaways sized to roof/hard surface area
  • Correct distance from buildings (typically 5m+)
  • Geotextile lining to stop silt migration
  • Downpipe, gully and yard drain connections

Drainage Runs & Connections

New foul and surface-water runs, repairs, chambers and mains connections.

From a single gully to a full run across a site, we lay pipework on a proper pea-shingle bed with the correct gradient, install inspection chambers at every change of direction and test the fall before backfilling. Existing runs can be excavated, repaired or rerouted.

  • 110mm surface-water and foul drainage runs
  • Inspection chambers and rodding access points
  • Repairs to collapsed, cracked or root-damaged pipes
  • Connections to existing systems and mains

Surface-Water Problems

Water running towards the house, flooded driveways and overflowing gullies.

Surface water heading for a doorway or airbrick needs sorting quickly. We intercept the flow with channel drainage, regrade paving falls, add linear drains and gullies, and take the water safely to a soakaway or drainage run away from the building.

  • Water pooling against walls, doors or airbricks
  • Driveway and patio flooding after heavy rain
  • Blocked, undersized or overflowing gullies
  • Downpipe rerouting and rainwater management

FAQs

Drainage & soakaway questions

How much does a soakaway cost in Bognor Regis?

Most domestic soakaways fall between roughly £900 and £2,500 depending on the crate volume needed, depth, access for machinery and how far the connecting pipework has to run. We give a fixed, no-obligation price after a free on-site survey.

Why is my garden waterlogged?

Around Bognor Regis and the West Sussex coastal plain the ground is often heavy clay with a high water table, so rainwater cannot soak away naturally. Compacted soil, poor falls and blocked or missing drainage make it worse. A land drain network feeding a properly sized soakaway is the usual fix.

Do I need planning permission for a soakaway?

Not usually for a domestic soakaway, but it must be built to Building Regulations Part H — generally at least 5 metres from any building and sized to the area of hard surface draining into it. We build to those standards as standard.

How long does drainage work take?

A single soakaway is often a one-day job. A full garden drainage scheme with land drains and a soakaway typically takes two to four days, depending on ground conditions, access and reinstatement.

Which areas do you cover?

Bognor Regis, Chichester, Littlehampton, Rustington, Arundel, Angmering, Ferring, East Preston, Goring, Worthing, Pulborough, Storrington and the surrounding West Sussex villages.

Can you fix drainage without wrecking the garden?

Yes. We use compact micro and mini diggers that fit through standard side access, protect lawns with boards where needed and reinstate turf, paving or shingle when the work is finished.
